Paint the Earth opened on Lake Road, Takapuna, in September 1998.
Emma, the founder of Paint the Earth had discovered the idea while living in Seattle, USA. On her return to New Zealand she researched the ceramics industry in New Zealand and decided to open Paint the Earth.
She was joined by her step mum, Cathy and her Aunty Rosemary and together they built up an expertise in the glazing and firing of ceramics as well as developing systems to ensure customers had fun painting their own ceramics.
From 2000-2003 they expanded the business by opening a second Paint the Earth in Lynn Mall, New Lynn.
Paint the Earth has since moved to it's Rosedale/Albany address and is proud to have 2nd generation painters - customers that had painted as children in the Takapuna or Lynn Mall shops and are now bringing their own children to paint.
Households throughout Auckland, New Zealand and even in different parts of the world have treasured ceramic dinnerware and ornaments that have been painted at Paint the Earth.
These include: wedding platters with guests’ signatures etched into them; special mugs for grandparents; ceramics with baby footprints, toddler’s handprints or special artwork; company logos on ceramic gifts for staff or clients, and numerous other special ceramic pieces. Customers often bring in pieces from many years ago that are still being used every day, which goes to show the high quality of our ceramic pieces.
